QueryLayer raises €2M in Seed round to empower "good data brands"

- QueryLayer has raised a €2M Seed round led by Nauta, with participation from returning investors.
- QueryLayer helps businesses to become “Good Data Brands”, leveraging automated workflows and PrivacyUX to build customer loyalty based on the transparent use of personal data.
- The platform has been built working closely with Privacy and Security executives of scale-ups and the €2M funding is planned to be invested into product, sales and marketing.
QueryLayer (now TrustWorks), the no-code privacy workflow platform, has secured €2M in Seed funding. Nauta led the round, with previous investors also participating.
According to a 2019 Cisco Consumer Privacy study, 32% of digital customers can be considered 'privacy actives' as they see privacy as a core principle of the brands they have a relationship with, while leading B2C ScaleUps are registering a year-on-year growth of 30% on customer privacy requests. As a result, privacy operations have become critical to building a company’s relationship with their customers.
QueryLayer helps businesses to become “Good Data Brands”, leveraging automated workflows and PrivacyUX to build customer loyalty based on the transparent use of personal data.
“Setting up consumer-centric privacy operations (like data rights) that comply with a growing number of worldwide data protection regulations is a challenging task for all digital businesses” says CEO Pádraig O’Leary.
“Our clients, leading scaling brands, understand that privacy operations go beyond mere compliance, even beyond automation. They have to be embedded into products and customer journeys in order to improve customer acquisition, retention and overall loyalty.”
The QueryLayer platform provides the foundations for enterprise privacy operations by empowering privacy leaders to onboard cross-functional teams like customer success, product and engineering in order to build privacy-first customer experiences whilst also providing APIs and an engineering toolkit to connect existing privacy and security tools like data governance, discovery or PETs (Privacy Enhancing Technologies).
Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer, Krzysztof Szypillo says “I have been assisting Fortune500 companies around consumer-centric solutions for more than a decade. Despite a proliferation of privacy and security products, businesses still struggle with the orchestration of consumer centric privacy operations. Let’s take the example of Data Subject Requests under GDPR. In most of the cases, the right execution of the process still involves multiple stakeholders, as well as different technologies. By orchestrating these processes, QueryLayer saves hundreds of hours spent on communication and execution as well as optimises the usage of privacy and security tools”.
The company, which was founded last year in Valencia (Spain), has previously raised a pre-seed round from Seedcamp and Martin Henk, the co-founder of Pipedrive. During 2020, QueryLayer has built the platform working closely with Privacy and Security executives of several scale-ups and now plans to use their €2M seed round on product, sales and marketing.
Jordi Vinas, Nauta’s Barcelona-based General Partner said: “From our first interaction with Pádraig and Krzysztof, we liked their vision of companies becoming Good Data Brands, and we wanted to support QueryLayer in their mission to empower people to exercise their data rights. We believe that QueryLayer is well-positioned to become a global leader in Data Privacy as they enable their clients to efficiently comply with regulations as well as generating higher customer trust.”
