Newly launched female sexual wellness app announces €1M seed round from Nauta Capital

Emjoy, wellbeing app that empowers women on their journey to sexual happiness, has announced closing a €1M seed round from pan-European VC, Nauta Capital.
The mobile-first platform, which launched its app both on the App Store and Google Play last week, aims to empower women to change their relationship to sex through scientifically-backed and research-centric audio content.
The app offers more than 80 audio sessions including practical guides, meditation sessions and communication tips – all designed to guide users to improve their sexual wellbeing.
Initially focused on female sexuality, Emjoy’s proprietary audio content covers topics including how to boost libido, developing self-knowledge, increasing pleasure, improving sexual communication, and features experts in fields of psychology, sex therapy, education and mindfulness.
Barcelona-based Emjoy was founded by Andrea Oliver Garcia and Daniel Tamas in 2018 when after more than 4 years in working in VC Andrea decided to embark on her own entrepreneurial journey.
“I have always considered myself a feminist and as I grew up, I realised that many girlfriends of mine lived their sexuality with shame and knew very little about themselves – some even doubting if they had or hadn’t experienced an orgasm.
Then I came across several studies such as the pleasure gap and sexual wellbeing reports showing that cisgendered heterosexual women consistently experience less pleasure than their male counterparts. Shockingly, data from several studies show that over 40% of women struggle to attain an orgasm and that 30% of women worldwide experience libido issues,” explains Andrea.
With a mission to empower women to improve their relationship with sex and help them take responsibility for their own pleasure, Emjoy aims to offer reliable and researched-backed content.
“As I was researching and talking to sex therapists and industry experts, I noticed the internet was crowded with inconsistent and untrustworthy information. That’s when I decided to stop backing amazing entrepreneurs to become one myself in order to help women enhance their sexual wellbeing with Emjoy,” states Andrea.
Predicted to be a $50 Billion market by 2025, Emjoy aims to be a category leader in growing FemTech market, which includes sexual wellness, by addressing a historically unaddressed problem for half of the global population.
Commenting on the investment, Jordi Vinas, Nauta Capital’s General Partner said: “Having closely worked with Andrea for many years, we’ve seen first-hand her passion and knowledge on what it takes to build a scalable, global business. We are delighted to partner with Emjoy early in their journey as they tackle an important issue which has been ignored for far too long.”
With more than 700 early-sign ups before launch, Emjoy will use the funds to double its team by 2020 and establish a presence in its two core target markets: UK and U.S.
